We all admit, that we haven't served our birth land as much as we have served America. Maybe there is calling here amongst all the turmoil with getting GCs.
Our home country wants us back. I know we have huge issues back in India. Population, Politician :-) etc etc.

Immigration is one of the very few issues the President and the Dems agree on. It would be good if this issue gets addressed as early as possible (part of building good faith) before they go back to pointing knives at each other. Which is bound to happen once Dems set up inquiry committees.

The only reason i feel this so called "family-bill" will not generate too much anti-immigrant sentiment is because it doesn't have the baggage of being termed the CIR bill.
The very mention of the word CIR stirs up strong responses and emotions from all parties involved.
This bill seems to tackle a smaller problem rather than going for a big bang solution that the CIR would attempt. That's why i felt it might have a better chance to succeed.
Thanks for all the other info. Much appreciated.

cool down brother.. no one is demanding anything from CORE ... we are just discussing different ways to be closer to CORE and do the necessary work to be a part of the inner circle to get updates..
...and you want to jeopardise the hard work just so that you get $25 worth. .... Do not try to satisfy a few nuts who do not know what they are saying.

It is better to make two trips and do a civil wedding i know it is expensive imagine if she has a work permit u can make up for the cost in no time else she will not be able to work for many many years.
I am in a similar situation getting married in Sep07 and returning with my wife at end of Sep'07. It is little scary, as some say it might be risky not to apply along with the spouse.
Should I go ahead and apply for I485, EAD and AP all three at the same time now, or to apply just for I485?
I am not sure what advantage would be applying now, as I have to wait until the dates become current again, and I will not be able to use my EAD to maintain my wife's H-4 status.
PD: Sep2006
I-140: Approved 06/2007
Thanks

I am applying for AP (new). Are they issued with 1 year validity or 2 years ( now that EAD is being given for 2 years)?

RedCard,
Have you ever checked your balance? . Please go through insurance documents you would discover the truth. let me know after checking your balance how much you have in account/how much you paid.
Thx,
21stIcon
I am not sure what you mean by this... I have a schedule which lays out the exact amount which is payable in case you terminate the policy before the end of the level term period... which is about $1K in the first five years and hardly anything in the initial years but increases at the end of the term period..that apart you can either pay lump sum premium annually or you can pay monthly.
Let me know if this helps or be more specific so that I can check..

I and my wife are debating whether to apply OCI or PIO card for our son who was born in US and has a US passport. We both hold Indian passport.
Can you experts please suggest which is the better route? The Indian consulate phone number is of not much help. It just keeps going in infinite loop and does not connect to a real person.

The request by a fellow boarder to lower the contribution to $10 month is just so unfortuante. This tells us how badly we want our GC's. You are right Janak, even I am not sure whether to laugh or cry when something like this comes across.
But CanadianIndian I give you credit for bringing this thing out as I am sure there are many more who would be thinking of that magical number or may be even less (God, still bless IV)

To best of my knowledge, at least one parent must have US citizenship to get OCI ( the rules were different earlier - may be 3-4 years back ).
Here is the san francisco Indian consulate OCI V/s PIO card link:

Consulate website : http://www.cgisf.org/
PIO Info : Consular Info (http://www.cgisf.org/pio/pioservices.html)

As for registering with police ( with PIO card ) every 6 months, i am not sure.
Some of my friends say one needs to send a letter to some regional dsp office.
Anybody has more info ( i mean the families with us citizen kid who moved
back to India and staying there with PIO card ? ) ?
My kid was in India for more than 6 months. We took him to the comissioner's office and registered him. You need to take a couple of passport photos, the PIO card, and the foreign passport. They will issue you a letter that states that the child is allowed to stay beyond six months. The letter that we got is valid for two years. We were told that if the child stays beyond the date of the validity date in the letter, then to come and get a new letter. The whole process took about two hours. BTW, this was in Hyderabad.
