Have to watch this one carefully. Kennedy (one of the co-sponsors of this bill) had thrown EB immigrants under the bus last year while favoring FB and illegals (in CIR). Need to be see the contents of this bill very carefully. Esp this clause from the AILA report:
"Addressing the decades-long backlogs for certain countries by raising the per-country immigration limits from 7 percent to 10 percent of total admission".
The CIR in 2007 had a similar clause, bumping up the country-limit from 7% to 10%, BUT it had another related clause that stopped rollover of visa's in the last quarter.
That would be disastrous for people from India and China as number of visas issued for the whole year will go DOWN!!
The recapture clause sounds promising , provided there is atleast an even split between EB and FB (of EB coming before FB). If they do it the other way around (like they had done in the last recapture for schedule-A nurses) then EB people will see no benefit of the recapture, and will end up losing one more quick-fix option.
Eagerly waiting for the bill text so the dissection and analysis can begin!!

I know you are a committed member and you contribute as well. You have been helping the holiday thread to be on the top too. I was talking about my IV holiday fund raising to one of my co-worker who is a US citizen and who does not have an Indian/ Asian ethnic background and he had mentioned to me you guys are 25,000 people and all of you are hard working legal immigrants. you dont need to go to anyone else for money. your group is financially very strong. If all of you put in 10$ each month you will have 250K funds available every month. What you should really work on is get every member to commit to that 10$ every month. What can we do to get every one of us put in that 10$ every month?

July bulletin is OUT and NO more significant movement. Please call Lawmakers ASAP. Unless we take action USCIS is not going to do anything. Situation can be worse once we head towards election season. Still we have 1-2 months to get things done or we will be waiting for years to get green card OR EAD ( For some folks ).
It is just 10-15 minutes need to spend to call. Let them know WHO WE ARE AND WHAT ARE OUR ISSUES .

I am not sure if its legal or not but various members can contribute their skills in exchange of donation to IV. This way members with skills are giving their time to IV and Members of the forum are getting sound advice/guidance/service for small contribution to IV. Examples can be many like CPA, Tax preparation, Doctors, career guidance, Online tutoring, Software consutlancy. I am sure all the members are "SKILLED" in various walks of life.

Man/Woman, I see so much energy here or could be just shouting. It would be in the best interest to use the energy to contact respective congressman/woman/senator of their area, ask them / request them to bring/pass legislation like SKIL and PACE. Tell them why this bill is needed. Tell them your problem. If everyone of us call congressman and woman and follow up with them on the progress that would be great. Am I doing it? Yep..Not joking IV members are involved.
IV guys can you develop questionnaire which we should ask the operator. What I did is I asked to operator to connect me someone who can help me in bringing immigration legislation. That is how I approached the operator. IV associates what I am getting at is how should people reach right person? As IV people have interacted with many senator office they have better idea what are different staffer there and how they are addressed, and how to reach them.

K , I see two views by two different types of folks.
View #1: This system sucks. Its not fair and just. America is a great country and land of immigrants and we chose to immigrate here. Lets work on this issue so that I myself and folks such as myself now and going forward do not have this problem. I will do what ever it takes. I personally feel that regardless of the outcome, it gives immense self satisfaction to commit to meaningful cause. Others might not feel so, but all of us believe that this problem needs to be solved and do what ever we can do.

Now My question is what do you want to accomplish on IV if you do not want to work on the issue, If you do not want believe in the core principles of this organization. If you think that immigrants are treated like dirt and again if you believe in that and because you are an immigrant in this country, you should have been putting up with a treatment like dirt, do you have an iota of self esteem?? Seriously, If you really believe what you are saying why do you even want to be here now? or why do you even want to have a backup plan that will again make you a immigrant some where else?? $$$ over ride self esteem Huh? In the name of discussion you want to shape the opinion of people who do not talk much. Kudos to your agenda. Should I say that all of you those who bought homes and are having a life bought a home with 0% down and interest only loan so that you can save your taxes now and if your GC does not come through in 5 years, you will walk out with out any loss as you made hefty deductions and haven't paid single penny towards the mortgage and simply go to Timbuktu or Krakovia. I will not!. Just because you chose to buy a home and have a life does not mean that others dont. Every one lives their own lives. Those who dont buy a home live a life of their choice. Stop judging people. GC was not a risk or hindrance to you in buying a home but could be for Joe the Analyst. You might have deep pockets, Joe the analyst might not or have other commitments. Coupled with the lack of GC, his risk might be more than some one else.

I completely disagree with your message here. You dont even know what the personal reason for not participating in a state chapter is. I, for one, am unable to join a state chapter, because , the nearest chapter is 400 miles and 2 states away. What good would it do to me to join something that I can never be part of. I wanted to start a state chapter here in my place, but I couldnt find any useful resources on how to do it. May be eb3_nepa has some reasons like it.
Like you said, IV is not a top-down organization, which means everyone is responsible for everyone. I dont see anything wrong with eb3_nepa's questions. He wanted to know what is going on. I am sure there are lots of people around here who has the same questions.
The Admin Fixes letter campaign was a good initiative. But, the target date got moved twice, and now I dont even know when the end date is.
May be IV should be a top-down organization. Any organization as big as IV would probably be better served with a Top Team. That team could probably elected by the community. I am confident, that most of our members wouldnt even mind spending a few extra bucks to pay a honarary amount to this team for their efforts and time. Then there will be more structure and accountability and action going on around here.

I dont see so many activities going on around here. Like eb3_nepa and few others said, IV is right now becoming just another Immigration portal. It is starting to lose its identity.
After doing all the hard work to gather a mass or like minded people, it will be shameful, if IV drifts away from its stated aim. So, may be it is time for every member, including core members like you to refect upon things and come up with ways to make this organization more transparent and more accessible for people like me.

This membership group will have only members whose identities have been verified. Once this group is created, IV can post all the happenings accessible to them. The idea is to create a channel to dissipate information through channels other than WWW. Believe it or not, there are lot many folks from anti-groups who lurk around just to keep an eye on us. Participating or becoming part of the group near to you and encourage others to do the same will also help to build/strength a group of like minded folks in the area who could then team-up to meet with local lawmakers from your area/state. We are a grass roots organization and we need to have a stronger grassroots in order to continue to be more effective. As I said earlier, this channel also is very useful to dissipate information which cannot be shared on world wide web.
Now a days when everybody has presidential election on their mind, immigration issue is not on the list of things to do for most lawmakers. As such, it takes time for the updates and the there are updates that cannot be disclosed on www. We continue to work on our issues in manner we have always worked in the past. And in the absence of Congress not taking up our immigration issues, it some how becomes our fault even though it is ok if some folks would show up from time to time and suggest that they have reasons not to join a google or a yahoo group. And all of a sudden the problem is with organization and the manner in which we work and then there is an urgent to create a “process”. Although you seem to be suggesting that you want all the ducks in the row and world peace issues sorted out before you will start accepting updates in exactly the manner in which you like to receive them. Is that correct? How about the idea of getting actively involved in your area and create an active chapter, which was your idea to begin with, and one I would agree is an excellent idea.
